Symposium description: The increasing use of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets for repair and strengthening existing reinforced concrete structures, and masonry structures as well, has generated considerable research interest. Recently FRP sheets have been also applied to steel structures. The increase in load capacity due to FRP sheets application has attracted several designers. The effectiveness of such a technology is conditioned by several aspects such as understanding the mechanisms of failure of strengthened structures and the durability of the application itself.
