Further Insights In The Study of Polypyridyl Ruthenium (II) Complexes With Tetrazolate Ligands

none3Over the past two decades, polypyridyl complexes of d6 metal ions, owing to their peculiar electrochemical and photophysical properties, have received great attention. In particular, even though a wide range of nitrogen rich aromatic ligands have been employed in the design of mono and dinuclear ruthenium complexes, tetrazole compounds have been only rarely considered in such kind of chemistry. Thus, as the extension of our previous studies,[1] we have recently reported [2] some new mono and dinuclear Ru(II) polypyridyl complexes containing various 5-substituted tetrazolate ligands which were shown to act as efficient ElectroChemiLuminescence - ECL – luminophores. In light of these interesting results, we now report a series of new Ru(II) and Ir(III) complexes in which thienyl-tetrazole ligands as well as chelating tetrazolates are introduced in the metal coordination sphere.
