[eng] Bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) has a deeply rooted background as a commercial benchmark species in the Mediterranean. However, the appearance of continuous depleting capture trends dating back from the 70´s gave rise to an increasing concern on the species´ sustainability. Ever since, large effort has been invested on improving its management starting by declaring the species as worldwide overfished. A recent example deals with the implementation of a larval index in the Mediterranean Sea aiming to assess the spawning stock biomass by using non-related fisheries´ datasets.
