[eng] The chelonian species Mauremys leprosa is distributed across South-East Europe and North-West Africa, where two different phylogenetic lineages have been distinguished as subspecies: M. leprosa leprosa and M. leprosa saharica. The introduction of this species has been recorded in five countries, among which Spain is the only one where the species has established successfully. An interesting case in this country is the establishment of a reproductive population in Mallorca (Balearic Islands), whose phylogeographical origin and population demography parameters are still unknown.
