This work reports a study on the characterization of the lipid obtained from cortical and medullary normal human kidney tissue, medullary tissue infiltrated by clear cell carcinomas (RCC), malignant renal neoplasms (RCC) and an urothelial carcinoma. The total lipid fractions were analyzed by 13C and 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy and thin-layer chromatography, whereas the different lipid fractions were characterized by gas chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography. The analysis evinced significant differences in the renal tissues here examined.
