Study of the water quality dynamics, Carreta dam in Tepatitlan de Morelos, Jalisco, Mexico [Estudio de la din�mica de la calidad del agua, presa Carreta en Tepatitl�n de Morelos, Jal. M�xico]

All rivers, creeks, lakes, and any body of water needs to be examined for a minimum level of water quality before they're considered as a possible resource for potable water. In this century 21 human kind faces a growing demand of food supplies, therefore the per capita income (Freeman et al., 2005). The "Carreta" Dam currently provides drinking water to the communities of Tepatitlan, Jalisco, Mexico. It is necessary to know the variation of the physiochemical and microbiologic parameters of its waters. This research monitors several water samples from 5 control points throughout the dam at different depths, then it describes several lab results of these samples which were done using Hydrolab equipment on site. Among the variables are temperature, electric conductivity, pH, chlorides, NH 4, NO 3, OD, hardness, ST, SVT and rust reduction. Some of these variables are out of the limit for an acceptable range for drinking water. Therefore, it is concluded that this water has high microbiologic pollution levels, it is relevant to share this results with other agencies in order to reach to an action plan. � 2011 Taylor & Francis Group, London
