Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are prone to clinical exacerbations that are associated with increased airway inflammation, a potent pro-thrombotic stimulus. Limited information is available on the mechanisms underlying the putative alterations of the endothelial-coagulative system during acute exacerbations.
