The growth and energy metabolism of Exocoetus volitans (Linne)

It is supposed that life cycle of Exocoetus volitans in the Atlantic Ocean is on the average less than a year and a half, the maximum age is two years. The dimensional and age composition of pubescent individuals is the same in different regions of the area. The setting of a ring on the scale and otoliths often is more often confined to the beginning of maturation of the reproductive products and apparently corresponds to one year of the life. A high level of energy metabolism is observed. Values of the average diurnal ration are calculated. It amounts to 12,0-9,1% of body weight in adult individuals of 13,06-16,21 cm long and 66,7% in fry of less than 1 cm long.Предполагается, что Ex. volitans в Атлантическом океане живет в среднем менее полутора лет, предельный возраст — два года.
