Experimetal data obtained in different regions of the World Ocean allow developing an algorithm for restoration of the vertical profile of the total photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) in sea by the effective wavelength of the upwelling radiation (λ↑eff) that is an integral parameter of the natural light flow reflected by the water thickness. A correlation between depths where the total downward irradiance in the PAR region is 10 %, 1 % of its surface value and the value λ↑eff is considered. The suggested algorithm is universal since it permits using different color indices in absence of the whole spectrum of the upwelling radiation.
