The treatise work on machines has experienced a considerable development during the Industrial Revolution as a result of the accumulation of science and technology of machine engineering. Fundamental contributions for technical treatises with modern approaches can be recognized in the handbooks by Bélidor and Borgnis since they show a significant improvement of the technical treatises. In this paper their handbooks are presented also from historiographical perspective and with a comparative analysis in order to emphasize their significance both in the history and techniques of machines
