The article explores the use of medical information in non-medical contexts and, in particular, those relating to socio-political contexts. It characterizes the degree of medical content in a variety of genres, distinguishing between, on the one hand, the ‘medical’ advertorial with an essentially commercial goal and, on the other hand, more truly socio-political genres that claim and/or appear to be dealing with medical information in relation, for example, to national and international health policies. These claims need to be carefully scrutinized
