Anglų kalbos būdvardžiai su priesagomis -ive ir -ory: tekstynu paremtas tyrimas

The central issue around which the present Bachelor Thesis revolves is adjectives in English ending in -ive and -ory. The thesis concentrates on the same-rooted adjectives differing solely in the suffix. Although the semantics of the suffixes are synonymous, the adjectives do not always bear similar meanings. In many cases, one of the members of adjective pairs has established a specific context of use. On rare occasions, the adjectives are even too alienated to compete. In the course of the empirical investigation, two main sources of information and data were used. Dictionaries were used to compare the definitions of adjectives while a corpus was employed for providing examples of contexts of use as well as the frequencies of adjectives
