Lithuanian societal structure: perceptions of social hierarchy`s bases, manifestations and legitimacy

The aim of the thesis is to analyse Lithuanian societal structure as it is perceived by the members of the society themselves. Applying inductive qualitative methodological approach and based on the premises of the social identity theory the author primarily strives to reveal the bases of emic social classification. Besides, to identify manifestations of inter-group behavior (as opposed to the inter-personal one) and the ways they are reflected by the selected respondents. Ultimately, to better grasp individual assessments of inequality as implicated by the social hierarchy itself and different ways it is legitimized. Having considered all of the above, the author continues to analyse the limits of social hierarchy`s reflection and its significance in the broader-scope strand of academic studies on social stratification
