Verbs expressing feelings in social space

The theme of the final bachelor thesis – verbs, expressing feelings on social networks. The objective – to analyse what lexical tools (verbs) people use to express their feelings on social networks (FB and BE).In order to achieve this objective, references were made on Lithuanian and foreign scientific literature sources. The empirical research was also carried out. All the material collected on FB and BE was analysed using comparative descriptive method. 93 advertisements and 23 commentaries on FB and 19 articles on BE were chosen and analysed. The thesis consists of three parts. The first part is theorethical, where the definition, conception and importance of the social space is given; it is also explained what are the verbs, expressing feelings and it is defined the concept of the prototype. The second part is empirical which is focused on the verbs expressing feelings on different social networks. With reference to FB and BE examples and the definitions in Great Lithuanian Dictionary the meanings of the verbs, expressing feelings, were explained. According to the frequence of the usage, we can define three categories of the verbs, expressing feelings – positive, negative and passive prototypical. The third part – conclusions which were drawn according to the results which were achieved by using the theory of the prototypes. It was notised that the verbs, expressing feeling are often changed into interjections on FB. It turned out that the category prototypes on FB and BE do not coincide. The verbs, expressing feelings are more frequent but they are abstract while communicating on FB. Photos and interjections add the needed specificity. The verbs, expressing feelings are very rare on BE. It is thought that this situation is because of a high level of the newspaper itself and the genre of the articles on this Internet newspaper . Carrying the empirical research, some problems occured: the verbs, expressing feelings were not very abundant in the analysed material on BE. Bot: FB and BE use verbs, expressing feelings in participle and past participle constructions. Another problem – ambiquity of the verbs, expressing feelings. Due to this reason it was difficult to put some of the verbs, expressing feelings into one of the three categories. Having analysed all the gathered data, we can draw the conclusion that the final thesis is useful, topical and relevant to the contemporary society, where people often communicate on social networks using graphical elements for expressing their feelings. This work is also useful because it gives the definitions of prototypical meanings used on two different Internet daily newspapers. It was notised that the majority of the analysed meanings are used in wider context than they are given in the Great Lithuanian Dictionary
