Links between psychosocial risk factors and social reflection of the nursing care team

The aim of the research is to analyze and assess links between psychosocial risk factors and social reflection of nurses and nursing assistants. Task of work: 1. To investigate sociodemographic data of nurses and nursing assistants working in a health care team. 2. To identify psychosocial risk factors of the nursing care team and their links with the sociodemographic data. 3. To investigate indicators of social reflection and their relationship with the sociodemographic data of the respondents' team. 4. To determine links between psychosocial risk factors and social reflection of the respondents' team. Materials and methods. The survey involved 86 nurses and nursing assistants from Vilnius city hospital in the internal medicine, surgery and intensive care departments. The average age of the respondents is 42.8±1.3 years (ranged from 23 to 63). The interview conducted was in 7/12/2016 – 31/03/2017. The sociodemographic data of the respondents were analyzed. The European Union prevention and good practice guide questionnaire (2013) was used for this survey. Psychosocial risk factor indicators (stress, burnout, violence, mobbing, inappropriate work time organization) and indicators of social reflection were explored. The data analysis was performed using statistical analysis programs; the odds ratios regarded as statistically significant when the error probability value p < 0.05. Results and conclusions. 1. 75 % of the nurses and nursing assistants were older than 30 years. 51% of the respondents had a university degree and 49% of them had non-university higher education. The duration of service of 77 % of the respondents is longer than 5 years. The majority (66 %) of the nurses and nursing assistants were working in the internal medicine departments. 66 % worked full-time and 56 % in shifts/night. More than half of the respondents (57 %) in case of illness take a certified sick leave. Only 28 % of the respondents had never changed their place of work. 2. Respondents who worked in the internal medicine and surgery departments had a risk of stress, burnout, violence and inappropriate working time arrangements. Stress risk was significantly associated with lower education, shorter duration of service and respondents' sickness rate. Burnout risk was significantly associated with work in surgery/intensive care team, marital status and shift/night work. Manifestations of violence are significantly associated with younger age and working more than full-time. Risk associated with inappropriate working time arrangements was significantly worse in the internal medicine departments, it was also associated with a short duration of employment (up to 5 years) and shift/night work. Risk of mobbing was associated with shorter (up to 5 years) and longer (26 years and more) duration of service. 3. The total respondents' social reflection rate was found to be high and it is significantly higher in the internal medicine departments. Significant correlation between social reflection and respondents' average age was identified, non-university higher education and working full-time. Social reflection indicator is decreasing when respondents work part-time. 4. Comparing the surgery and internal medicine nursing care team links between social reflection and psychosocial risk factors, stress risk was found to be significantly higher in the surgery team, however, burnout and inappropriate working time arrangement risks were significantly higher in the internal medicine departments
