Mini businesses and projects in Sudan face several obstacles, including poor technical and administrative capacity, lack of funding and legal support, in addition to poor infrastructure, especially in rural areas. This paper deals with microfinance and its role in poverty alleviation. This study tries to identify the role of microfinance in poverty eradication and reduction case study of Family Bank - Sudan. Accordingly, the study tries to answer the following questions: Does microfinance contribute in poverty eradication and reduction? Do funders follow up during and after implementation? Answering the above mentioned questions, the study aims to identify: microfinance obstacles, causes and effects of poverty, conditions and requirements stated by Family Bank for fund granting, appropriate recommendations to propagate culture of microfinance. The study adopted descriptive, analytical and case study approaches and it is divided into three chapters: the first chapter covers concept and definition of microfinance, chapter two reviews concept and definition of poverty, chapter three identifies Microfinance role exemplified- in productive households funding- in poverty alleviation- case study of Family Bank. The study concluded to the following findings: Geographical spread of Family Bank branches facilitated services provision for beneficiaries in their locations and reduced accessory cost, microfinance is an effective mean to address problems of unemployment as it creates job opportunities, Family Bank managed to solve guaranty problem by applying non-traditional criteria such as civil society organizations' guaranty and salary guaranty. Finally, the study stated the following recommendations: The need for focusing on rural microfinance , special attention should be given to sectors such as health and education, pre funding ,field visits to funded projects are needed to test reliability of the documents submitted by beneficiaries, removal of all obstacles such as: taxes , customs to facilitate of funding flow to families, the need to identify poor households as an entry point to address poverty, the percentage of in-kind funding is greater than the cash rate so that the funding provided is not used for purposes other than the purpose for which funding is granted
