The thermal boundary conditions at the impermeable channel walls are: uniform incoming heat flux at the bottom wall, uniform temperature at the top wall, adiabatic lateral walls. Thermoconvective instabilities are caused by the incoming heat flux at the bottom wall and by the internal viscous heating.
