Multicultural education in Mexico: Mesoamerica and pre-columbian history, and teachers' and students' identity in Oaxaca

There is a considerable amount of research on Mexican education available, but little has concentrated on the ideological aspect of multicultural interaction in the environment of the rural telesecundaria educational system. This research analyzes how the Mexican educational system manipulates information concerning Mesoamerica and pre- Columbian history, and how it affects identity of indigenous and non-indigenous teachers trained at the Escuela Normal Superior del Istmo de Tehuantepec (ENSIT) and indigenous Mixtec students from an Escuela Telesecundaria in a rural farming village named El Río, San Juán Ñumi in the Mixteca Alta in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. This study looks at the antagonisms that exist among the dominant mestizo culture and the subordinate indigenous cultures in a multicultural society, like Mexico. Hay una cantidad considerable de fuentes relativas a la Educación Mexicana disponible, sin embargo hay insuficiente en la ideología del ambiente de interacción multicultural en el sistema de educación telesecundaria rural. Ésta investigación analiza cómo el sistema educativo mexicano manipula la información respecto a mesoamérica y la Historia prehispánica, y cómo ello afecta la identidad de los maestros indígenas y no indígenas, capacitados en La Escuela Normal Superior del Istmo de Tehuantepec (ENSIT), y de los estudiantes mixtecos de una escuela telesecundaria en una comunidad rural, que se llama El Río, San Juán Ñumi, Tlaxiaco, de la Mixteca en el Estado de Oaxaca, México.
