Diferencias en el índice de Bolton entre las maloclusiones de clase I y clase III

The analysis of Bolton in orthodontics is a element for the diagnosis of the malocclusion. This analysis It has been evaluated in different populations and found its in effectiveness in different malocclusion and racial groups. The aim of our study was to identify alterations of discrepancy of the Bolton index when there are problems in maxilla or mandible between class I and class III malocclusion. Material and methods: the research is descriptive, observational and cross-sectional. We reviewed 1105 models pretreatment orthodontic patients of the Especialidad of Ortodoncia of the Universidad Autónoma de Nayarit. The plaster models that met the inclusion criteria were 546, and were chosen randomly 50 cases class I and 50 class III. The Bolton index was applied getting the discrepancy in millimeters in the 100 models and identified differences in Bolton when there are maxillary or mandibular problems between class I and III malocclusion. Separated into two groups: to (Maxillaris size excess) and B (excess of jaw size), divided in turn into subgroups (ABI y TBI); were compared using the Student's t test. Results:The discrepancy of Bolton index in the maxilla is greater in class III than in patients class I.El análisis de Bolton en ortodoncia es de gran importancia para el diagnóstico de las maloclusiones. Se ha evaluado en diferentes poblaciones y se ha determinado su eficacia en las diferentes maloclusiones y grupos raciales. Objetivos: Identificar alteraciones de discrepancia del índice de Bolton cuando hay problemas en maxilar o mandíbula entre maloclusiones Clase I y Clase III. Material y Métodos: La investigación es descriptiva, observacional y transversal. Se revisaron 1105 modelos pretratamiento de Ortodoncia de pacientes de la Especialidad de Ortodoncia de la Universidad Autónoma de Nayarit. Los modelos que cumplieron los criterios de inclusión fueron 546, y se escogieron aleatoriamente 50 casos Clase I y 50 Clase III. Se aplicó el índice de Bolton obteniendo la discrepancia en milímetros en los 100 modelos y se identificaron diferencias de Bolton cuando existen problemas maxilares o mandibulares entre maloclusiones clase I y III. Se separaron en dos grupos A (exceso de tamaño maxilar) y B (exceso de tamaño mandibular), dividiéndose a su vez en subgrupos (ABI y TBI); se compararon mediante la prueba de t de Student. Resultados: En pacientes clase III es mayor la discrepancia del índice de Bolton en el maxilar que en clase I
