Leaf and fruit morphological descriptors for commercial nance selections (Byrsonima crassifolia (L.) HBK) in Nayarit, Mexico.

In order to identify the variability of quantitative and qualitative leaf and fruit descriptors, 41 commercial nance selections (Byrsonima crassifolia (L.) HBK) collected in six locations of the state of Nayarit were characterized. The main component analysis (MCA) showed that 79.91 % of the total variance (TV) was explained by seven main components (MC’s) and from these three contributed 55.20 % to TV. MC1 explained 24.10 % of the variance, where the most relevant to the study of the nance genetic diversity were: fresh leaf weight, leaf area and the equatorial fruit diameter. MC2 contributed 19.18 % to TV, where the most important were fruit size and fresh weight, as well as leaf average length and width. MC3 contributed 11.92 % to TV, where fruit shape and fruit apex form were negatively correlated. Adaxial leaf pubescence correlated positively. The rest of the total variance had little importance to leaf and fruit phenotypic characterization. The three groupings obtained by principal components and hierarchical conglomerates had a high coincidence for discriminating selections based on leaf and fruit descriptors. However, the descriptors obtained showed no relationship with the geographical origin of the selections. This supposes an advanced degree of domestication and transit of plant material for commercial orchards.Se caracterizaron 41 selecciones de nanche (Byrsonima crassifolia (L.) HBK), colectados en seis localidades del estado de Nayarit, con el objetivo de identificar la variabilidad de descriptores cualitativos y cuantitativos de hoja y fruto de selecciones comerciales de nanche. El 79.91 % de la variación total (VT) fue explicada por siete componentes principales (CP), de éstos, tres contribuyeron con el 55.20 % de la VT. El CP1 explicó 24.1 % de dicha varianza, donde resultaron de mayor relevancia para el estudio de la diversidad genética del nanche: el peso fresco de la hoja, área de la hoja y el diámetro ecuatorial de fruto. El CP2 aportó 19.18 % de la VT, donde los más importantes fueron el peso fresco y tamaño del fruto, y la longitud y anchura media de la hoja. El CP3 contribuyó con 11.92 % de la VT, donde resultaron correlacionados negativamente la forma del fruto y la forma del ápice del fruto. La pubescencia en el haz de la hoja correlacionó en forma positiva. El resto de la variabilidad total resultó poco importante para la caracterización fenotípica de hoja y fruto. Las tres agrupaciones obtenidas por componentes principales y de conglomerados jerárquicos coincidieron ampliamente para discriminar selecciones basadas en los descriptores de hoja y fruto. Sin embargo, los descriptores dominantes obtenidos no mostraron relación con el origen geográfico de los selecciones.
