International audienceAbstract In this paper, we introduce the results of a thorough investigation of students' conceptions on mass and volume concepts and on object immersion in a liquid, that could be obstacles for relative density learning. This investigation draws on a bibliographic review, supplemented by conceptions obtained from 6 th grade students' individual interviews. This is part of a preliminary analysis of a didactic engineering, the aim of which is to build a teaching sequence on relative density at the end of elementary school.
