The research deals with the effect of using Read-Examine-Decide-Write (REDW) strategy on the students’ achievement in reading comprehension. The population of this research was the second years students of SMP Imelda Medan academic year 2016-2017 who consisted of 124 students. And the sample was taken 62 students. They were devided into two groups, 30 students for experimental group and 32 students for control group. The experimental group was taught by using REDW strategy, while the control group was applied by traditional method. The instrument in collecting data was collected by using multiple choice test about narrative text and analyzed the data from students’ answer.
