Uncertainty Tolerance of Multiobjective Environmentally Friendly Departure Procedures for Civil Aircraft

International audienceToday, one of the most important research directions in civil aviation aims at improving the environmental impact of aircraft. Noise nuisance and aircraft emissions can be minimized through improved aircraft and engine designs and operations. This research deals with the optimization of aircraft operations: in particular, the departure phase. In a recent paper, Torres et al. presented the multicriteria departure procedure (MCDP) concept, which focuses on the optimization of departure procedures minimizing air quality, carbon dioxide emissions, and perceived noise on ground. Results presented foresee promising benefits due to the optimization of this flight phase. However, the optimality of the concept can be jeopardized by the influence of the departure conditions (or inputs), such as temperature, humidity, or wind. Indeed, the efficiency of the procedures can only be ensured if the proposed departure procedures remain optimal under real departure conditions different from the ones considered during their computation. This Note proposes a methodology for estimating the maximum variations (tolerances) of the conditions at which the optimality of the departure procedures can be ensured
