Based on ethnographie fieldwork, this article brings to light the local appropriation of the community based tourism in the post-soviet and multiethnic context of Kyrgyzstan. This new kind of tourism reflects the switch from Soviet tourism which was formerly part of a controlled economy, by the state, the communist youth or the unions, to a travel industry reappropriated by «local populations». The article shows what the stakeholders involved on the field make of objectives of local participation in the patrimonialisation of the culture. They reappropriate the norms and representations promoted by the international organization and the tourist industry by including them in local dynamics.
