Mądry barok Barańczaka

The author focuses on the analysis and interpretation of one of the best Barańczak’s poems Bo tylko ten świat bólu (Only this world of pain). Firstly, she reveals traditon of avangarda that constitutes the essential constructive element of the poem (Peiper *s “blooming structure”), and then the analysis tends to revelation and exposition of a context far more important for the structure and meaning of the poem: barogue metaphysical lyric and baroque concept. The interpretation of the poem is carried on in two directions: on the one hand it exposes features of the “new wave” style, on the other hand - its metaphysical, symbolic layer, essential for the meaning of the text. The poem’s construction is founded on the shape of a circle, refers to its complex symbolic connotations, and due to its structure, it is contained within a circular form. According to baroque principles it translates metaphysical categories (suffering) into somatic ones (pain); it connects experience of the Earth and a man, shows suffering as an inherent constituent of every being, as its most perfected element. Rising above current political situation where it is rooted, the poem gives an impressively tragic diagnosis defining the construction of the world and the fate of man, bound with it; its message is metaphysical, universal
