The vibrational behaviour of synthetic spinels of the series MgAl2-xCrxO4, FeAl2-xCrxO4, Mg1-xFexAl2O4, Mg1-xFexCr2O4 et Mg1-x/2Fex/2Al2-xCrxO4, was investigated using Raman diffusion spectra. The chemical compositions have been determined by electron microprobe methods and the Raman diffusion spectra were then obtained after focussing the laser beam on the analysed points. The Raman spectra allow us to demonstrate a «one-mode » vibrational behaviour which is particularly apparent for the A1g mode. For this latter mode, the frequency shift is seen to depend mainly on Cr-Al substitution, from 770 cm-1 (MgAl2O4) to 685 cm-1 (MgCr2O4). «Two-mode » vibrational behaviour is shown to coexist with one-mode behaviour in the highly aluminous and ...
