Abstract

At first unanticipated, Heidegger’s thought on love remains unquestioned most of the time. If in recent years a few studies have undertaken to reveal it and outline its nature, it remains to define its origin in order to determine it perfectly. This is the theme of this article which -while emphasising how much St. Augustine inspired Heidegger with the two ideas of the necessity of love in the elaboration of knowledge and its gravity in existence -is devoted more generally to the contemporary task of illuminating the German thinker’s debt to tradition, especially Christian tradition (transl. by J.
