Préparation et structure cristalline d'un nouvel hydroxychromate de cuivre Cu11(OH)14(CrO4)4

Hydrolysis of γ Cu₂ (OH)₂CrO₄ at 160°C gives a new stable compound. It was possible to definitely attribute the complex formula Cu₁₁ (OH)₁₄ (CrO₄)₄ to this compound only after its complete structural investigation. This hydroxychromate crystallises in the triclinic system, with space groupe P-1 and Z = 1 formula units Cu₁₁ (OH)₁₄ (CrO₄)₄ per unit cell. The crystal structure of this compound was investigated after computation of a three-dimensional Patterson function which revealed the positions of the copper and chromium atoms. The positions of the oxygen atoms were investigated by Fourier difference synthesis. In this structure the distribution of copper atoms is as follows : seven copper atoms are set in octahedral layers where all the octahedral sites are occupied by Cu²⁺ ; equidistant from two octahedral layers of this first type are set four copper atoms forming octahedral links in which four of the possible octahedral sites are filled by copper. The chromate groups make the bond between these octahedral layers and links. The oxygen atoms or hydroxyl groups are set in parallel planes pratically equidistant but in the unit cell there are sometimes 7, sometimes 8 oxygen atoms or hydroxyls per layer.L'hydrolyse à 160° C de γ Cu₂ (OH)₂CrO₄ fournit un nouveau composé stable dont la formule complexe Cu₁₁ (OH)₁₄ (CrO₄)₄ n'a pu être attribuée de manière définitive qu'après la détermination structurale complète. Cet hydroxychromate cristallise dans le système triclinique, son groupe spatial est P-1, la maille renferme Z = 1 groupement formulaire Cu₁₁ (OH)₁₄ (CrO₄)₄. La structure de ce composé a été déterminée à l'aide d'une fonction de Patterson tridimensionnelle qui a révélé les positions des atomes de cuivre et de chrome, l'emplacement des atomes d'oxygène a été déterminé par synthèse différence. Dans cette structure la répartition des atomes de cuivre est la suivante : 7 atomes de cuivre se placent dans une couche octaédrique où ils occupent tous les sites octaédriques, à mi-distance entre deux couches octaédriques de ce premier type se placent 4 atomes de cuivre, disposés en chaînes octaédriques, 4 des 8 sites octaédriques possibles sont occupés. Les groupements chromate assurent le lien entre ces différentes couches et chaînes octaédriques. Les atomes d'oxygène ou groupements hydroxyles sont disposés dans des plans parallèles sensiblement équidistants, la maille contient tantôt 7, tantôt 8 atomes d'oxygène ou hydroxyles par couche.Riou Amédée.
