The resuming of digging on the prehistorical site of Cottier from 1967 to 1971 has shown evidence of the existence of 3 different archaeological layers : — the upper layer, of which there was very little left, seems according to the implements to correspond to late or «terminal » Magdalenian, which is fairly common in the area ; — the middle layer, which is dated 18 550 ± 550 B.P. (LY 719) corresponds to a cold period and includes implements which are quite typical of the Badegoulian culture («raclettes » ) , although it seems older than most known Badegoulian sites ; — the lower layer (which shows signs of a mountain climate) contains so few flint implements that it can hardly be compared to any other culture.
