The Pre-Pottery Neolithic B (PPNB) period saw the establishment of village farming in Southwest Asia and it is one of the earliest cultural complexes for which we can follow complex patterns of interaction across the Levant. This paper reviews the current status of a prior model of PPNB chronology which contended that the Early PPNB (EPPNB) emerged in the Northern Levant ca 9600 BP/ 9200 cal. BC and that the PPNB entity or many of its derived traits appeared significantly later in the Southern Levant, ca 9300 BP/ 8600 cal. BC.
