This paper approaches possible social interaction between the Levant and Northern Mesopotamia in the 6th millennium cal. BC through an appraisal of the main archaeological evidence dated in this period in these two large geographic areas. The new data, mainly from recent archaeological excavations, have succeeded in identifying technological and economic dynamics in neighbouring archaeological cultures in this period. Thus, the contributions of the new archaeological sequences at the major Late Neolithic sites in Northern Mesopotamia (Sabi Abyad, Chagar Bazar, Tell Halula, Halaf, Domüztepe) have been able to define the social dynamics associated with this culture and determine their influence on sites in the south.
