Analysis of the distribution of ions in the coexisting phyllosilicate phases phengite, biotite and chlorite indicates that, for the general case, aluminium is the only ion distributed in a regular manner. Specifically, tetracoordinated aluminium has a regular distribution between the coexisting pairs phengite-biotite, and phengite-chlorite. The distribution of aluminum in four-fold coordination for chlorite appears to be affected by the addition of biotite to the assemblage phengite-chlorite. The Al[iv] distribution between phengites and biotites is not affected by the presence of chlorite.
