L'enceinte circulaire du Chastel Messire Girard à Fontenois les Montbozon (Haute-Saône)

With all of the known difficulties of the excavation of circular medieval enclosures, the site at Fontenois resembles in every way similar constructions excavated in France and on the other side of the Rhine. The Fontenois enclosure, situated on the edge of a high plateau, is a horse shoe shape. A thin occupation layer, the site's abandon before it's full development (at an unknown date), and it's reutilisation as a sort of «refuge» habitation in the 15th century by the active population ; such is the information gained from the excavations. The traditional question as to why such a construction stays whole. The total absence of documentary resources lets us suppose the ephemeral character of the original settlement. The finds belong to the reoccupation of the site (in the second half of the 15th century), and provide us with the basis of a corpus on the ceramic in Franche-Comté.S'inscrivant dans la problématique de fouilles des petites enceintes circulaires médiévales, le site de Fontenois s'apparente en tous points aux aménagements similaires fouillés en France et outre-Rhin. Site de hauteur, installé en rebord de plateau, l'enceinte de Fontenois dessine un fer à cheval. Faible couche d'occupation, abandon du site avant son complet aménagement (à une date non déterminée) et réutilisation sous forme d'habitat «refuge» au XIVe siècle par la population active ; tels sont les principaux enseignements tirés des fouilles. La traditionnelle question du pourquoi d'un tel aménagement reste entière. L'absence totale de documentation écrite laisse supposer le caractère éphémère de l'habitat originel. Le mobilier recueilli appartient à la réoccupation du site (2e moitié du XIVe siècle) et fournit les bases pour un corpus de céramologie appliqué à la Franche-Comté.Affolter Eric, Voisin Jean-Claude.
