Deux riches tombes de l'époque des Grandes Invasions au nord de la Gaule (Airan et Pouan)

Michel Kazansky, Two rich burials of the time of the Great Invasions in Northern Gaule : Airan and Pouan. The Hunnic or barbarian style that appears in the burial furnishings of Airan (Department of Calvados) and of Pouan (Department of Aube) first saw the light during the first half of the 5th century in the cosmopolitan environment of Attila's court, in the central Danube area. The spread of this style is due in part to the renown of the Huns at the time and partly to the mobility that the aristocracy of that period enjoyed. These important people went from one court to the next, and in their train were doubtless goldsmiths. It would therefore be inappropriate to look for an eastern connection as regards the individuals who were buried in Airan and in Pouan. Each of these tombs should be studied, above all, within the context that applies to the antiquities of the area in which the tombs were found.La mode hunnique ou barbare qui apparaît dans le mobilier des sépultures d' Airan (Calvados) et de Pouan (Aube) a vu le jour dans le milieu cosmopolite de la cour d'Attila, dans la région du Danube moyen, pendant la première moitié du Ve siècle. La diffusion de cette mode est due, d'une part au prestige qu'exerçaient alors les Huns et qui survécut même à leur défaite, d'autre part à la mobilité de l'aristocratie de cette époque. Ces personnages vont d'une cour à l'autre, emmenant avec eux leur entourage dans lequel se trouvaient sans doute des orfèvres. Il ne faut donc plus chercher une origine orientale aux personnages inhumés à Airan et à Pouan ; chacune de ces tombes doit être étudiée avant tout dans le contexte des antiquités de la région où elle est située.Kazanski Michel.
