Five bivalve assemblages from the Middle Miocene (Badenian) limestones of the fore-Carpathian basin in Poland (Central Paratethys) are described in terms of their species composition and taxanomic structure. The evidence from the comparison of bivalve assemblages from the carbonate deposits with those from the sandy fades may support the view that the taxonomic structure (expressed as percentages of particular subclasses of the Bivalvia) depends on sediment composition.
