Paleogene phosphorite deposits of the Soviet Middle Asia occur within the sedimentary cover of the epi-Hercynian platform. Several deposits have been explored and promising areas delineated with total resources of granular phosphorite amounting to 3-4 bil. t. Oxidized and non-weathered ores are present, the former are friable, the latter rather hard.
