The bauxitic deposits of Juruti district (State of Para, Brazil) were developed from clayey sandstones (formation Barreiras) of Upper Cretaceous or Tertiary age. From the bottom to the top, are observed : a clayey level, a massive and ferruginous bauxitic level, a nodular bauxitic level, a clayey overburden. Their mineralogical composition is gibbsite, haematite, kaolinite, quartz and goethite. These formations result from a différenciation in situ. Two successive stages of evolution are recognized : an ancient phase of bauxitization characterized by macrocrystalline gibbsite formed after the desilication of the sediment and formation of kaolinite ; a recent phase characterized by a paragenesis of macrocrystalline gibbsite and finally a wea...
