Under the «Ancien régime » , tapestry is often analysed according to its principal function, which correspond to a hierarchy of its quality : as luxurious decorative art partook of princely transitory decorations, not only at Court but also in urban space ; as ordinary fabric it transformed into a utility movable article of noble or middle-class interior.
