L’histoire municipale d’Uchi Maius : un essai de reconstruction

Recent excavations conducted in Uchi Maius by a Tunisian-Italian team have delivered a large amount of Latin inscriptions that constitutes a major contribution both to the knowledge of the site, and to the social history and institutional organization of the entire territory of the wide colony of Carthage, the pertica Carthaginiensium. It is not surprising therefore that, during these last years and in parallel with new researches, erudite studies centred on the institutional history of the city as well as on that of its urbanism have been multiplied. Starting from several recent articles, we will review the legal file of this Roman city while offering a reconstruction of its municipal history.Les récentes fouilles d’Uchi Maius conduites par une équipe tuniso-italienne ont livré un important lot d’inscriptions latines qui constitue un apport capital tant à la connaissance du site qu’à l’histoire sociale et à l’organisation institutionnelle de tout le territoire de la grande colonie de Carthage, la pertica Carthaginiensium. Il n’est guère étonnant que, parallèlement à ces nouvelles recherches, des études érudites axées aussi bien sur l’histoire institutionnelle de cette ville que sur celle de son urbanisme se soient multipliées ces dernières années. C’est à partir de plusieurs articles récents que nous réexaminerons le dossier juridique de cette cité romaine tout en proposant une reconstruction de son histoire municipale.Ben Akacha Walid.
