La seda es un filamento de origen animal producido por el gusano Bombyx mori. Esta fibra se caracteriza por su suavidad y brillo único, lo cual se atribuye a la forma triangular de su sección transversal. Además, tiene una alta resistencia a la tracción y una alta tenacidad, similar a la de algunas fibras sintéticas.
