Since the birth of the Hollywood dream machine, movies have both reflected society and influenced it. One example of this is the way Hollywood films have paralleled the progressions and backlashes of the American women\u27s movement since the beginning of the twentieth century. This project examines these historical connections as well as 15 contemporary films and their relationship to the modern American woman\u27s experience. In the analyses of these films, several types of women characters were identified and related to the backlash American women have experienced over the last 20 years
