The Lippes Loop was the most popular IUD, followed by the Copper 7.The data presented in this report are the first national estimates of the use of intrauterine contraceptive devices, by type of device, from the 1973 and 1976 National Surveys of Family Growth conducted by the NationaI Center for Health Statistics. The data were collected by means of personal interviews with a multistage probability sample of women 15-44 years of age in the household population of the conterminous United States.
