Hyperuricemia (HU) is a well recognized risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Intima media thickness (IMT) of the carotid artery noninvasively assessed by ultrasonography is now validated as a sensitive marker for atherosclerosis and it is directly associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
