Kekuatan transversa resin akrilik heat-cured yang ditambah ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fiber (Transverse strength of heat-cured acrylic resin enhanced with ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fiber)

Background: Acrylic resin is the most common material for fabricating removable dentures. It possesses fine properties in many aspects, but it also has weaknesses regarding the ideal criteria for a perfect removable denture especially the transverse strength. Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fiber (UHMWPE) has some properties that are suggested for enhancing the transverse strength of acrylic resin. Purpose: The aim for this study was to assemble the data in relation to the transverse strength of acrylic resin enhanced with UHMWPE. Method: This study was a laboratory experiment involving 32 pieces of samples and the samples were divided into four different groups equally. UHMWPE then was added in several concentrations, i.e. 0 wt% (control), 3 wt%, 6 wt% and 9 w t%. The dimension for all samples were 60mm x 10mm x 3.3mm according to ISO 1567:1999 standard.
