UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIMALARIA EKSTRAK METANOL KAYU SECANG (CAESALPINlA SAPPAN LINN.) TERHADAP PLASMODIUM BERGHEI SECARA IN VIVO PADA MENCIT

The methanol extract of Sappanwood was tested for its in vivo antimalarial activity using Peter's 4 day suppressive test. Female white mice (20-35g body weight) were infected with P. berghei intra peritoneally with suspension containing 105 -108 infected red blood ceHs taken from a donor mice with parasitemia >20%, when parasite concentration in erythrocite reached > 1 %, treatment with diluted extract was given for four consecutive days orally with doses 300, 200, 100, 50, 25, and 12.5 mg/kg Body Weight. Blood samples were taken to determine parasitemia level for seven days and compared to non treated and chloroquin treated subjects and EDso was obtained by analysing inhibition level in five days with probit analysis. The result showed that methanol extract of Caesalpinia sappan has an ED50 value of 72.91395 mg/kg Body Weight against P. berghei
