Analysis of the need for additional pharmaceutical care services in a pharmacy.

Aim: To evaluate the need and benefits of providing additional pharmaceutical care services in public pharmacies. Tasks of the research: To identify the need for additional pharmaceutical care services in public pharmacies. To identify what additional pharmaceutical care services in public pharmacies would help people manage illnesses more effectively. Evaluate what problems related to the use of medicines people are most likely to encounter and identify whether additional services would help to solve these problems. To identify the causes that limit the development of additional pharmaceutical care services in public pharmacies. Evaluate respondents’ ability to pay for additional pharmaceutical care services in public pharmacies. Methodology: The research was conducted in 2017 - 2019. The quantitative method was chosen for the research - an anonymous questionnaire consisting of 19 closed-ended questions. 500 questionnaires were handed out during the survey, of which 422 completed questionnaires were suitable for analysis. Questionnaire survey data was analyzed using SPSS version 22. Results of the research: During the research, we found that, in addition to receiving medicines medicines, respondents increasingly consulted on medicine indications and undesirable effects, on possible interactions and dosing issues. Prescription extension, review of medicines and assessment of compatibility, measurement of cholesterol and glucose in the blood would contribute to more effective disease management. It was found that 40 % of the respondents experienced side effects and prescription of inappropriate medicines 29,9 %. 84,8 % of the respondents stressed that the said additional services would help solve these problems. The main factors hampering the implementation of additional pharmaceutical care services in pharmacies is lack of the separate premises and confidentiality 72,4 %, special tools and equipment 70,1 %, as well as the pharmacist’s busyness 69,8 %. Conclusions: Additional pharmaceutical care services are relevant to the vast majority of the respondents. Prescription extension, review of medicines and assessment of compatibility, measurement of cholesterol and glucose in the blood would have the most significant impact on effective disease management. Most of the respondents experienced side effects and inappropriate prescription of medicines. It was found that additional services would help identify and solve the problems related to the use of medicines. The development of additional services is limited by lack of the separate premises and confidentiality, shortage of special tools and equipment as well as the pharmacist’s busyness. The majority of pharmacy visitors would agree to pay for the provision of additional services
