Systemic inflammation in lung cancer

Research purpose. To determine the value of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio and CRP in the course of lung cancer treatment. Research goals. 1. Identify the relations between neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), CRP and clinical characteristics, morphological expression in patients with advanced non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). 2. To evaluate relation between NLR ratio and progression-free survival in patients with advanced NSCLC. 3. To evaluate relation between CRP and progression-free survival in patients with advanced NSCLC. The participants and research methods. Retrospective data analysis of 94 patients with IIIB-IV stage of NSCLC. Patient were treated with platinum based chemotherapy in LSMUL KK in 2016-2019. According to the NLR median, the subjects were divided into 2 groups: with non elevated NLR (≤2.87) and elevated NLR (>2.87). The CRP median is also divided into 2 groups with non elevated CRP (≤18.38) and elevated CRP (> 18.38). Results. NSCLC was more common in men and for smokers. The most common type of histology was adenocarcinoma. Significantly shorter progression-free survival in smokers or smokers in the past: 6,03±0,37 months (95 proc. PI 5,30-6,76), when progression-free survival for who never smoked 8,60±1,29 months (95 proc. PI 6,08-11,12) (p<0,05). A statistically significant longer progression-free survival was observed in patients with non-elevated NLR 7,83±1,26 months (95 proc. PI 5,37-10,29), when progression-free survival for the patients with elevated NLR was 5,63±0,60 months (PI 95 proc. 4,46-6,80) (p<0,05). A statistically significant longer progression-free survival for the patients with no increased NLR and CRP or increased only one of them and reaches 7,70±1,21 months (95 proc.
