Museums, representation and power: claim of african cultural artifacts and resistance in international politics

The monograph starts from the phenomenon of claiming African cultural artifacts to try to ascertain aspects of culture in the postcolonial context. In this attempt, historical events that confirm the conditions of obtention by looting and by ethnographic missions on the African continent, as well as the development of the issue over the years for which African countries and civil society have dealt with the technical paradigms that deny the return of the African heritage. As a deepening of what this question represents, the intention was to keep cultural objects from the territories explored in European museums in the nineteenth century. It is confirmed that the huge musealization of African heritage served the ideology of imperialism in its endeavor to universalize and spread the civilization of the white man to the rest of the world. Due to the power of techniques of exhibition and visualization much of what affects the intercultural relations of contact between Europeans and colonized people is still felt today within the practices of ethnographic museums. Finally, a research of the postcolonial approach with authors who theorize about representation, culture, power, domination, identity and resistance confirm an ethical-aesthetic-materialist cut and demonstrate that broader than the attempt to decolonize museums is the renegotiation of power relations in the postcolonial era.Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação)A monografia parte do fenômeno da reivindicação de artefatos culturais africanos para tentar averiguar aspectos da cultura no contexto pós-colonial. Nesta tentativa são abordados eventos históricos que confirmam as condições de obtenção sob pilhagens, saques e missões etnográficas no continente africano bem como o desenrolar da questão ao longo dos anos pelos quais países da África e a sociedade civil se ocuparam em enfrentar os paradigmas técnicos que imperaram nos argumentos os quais negam a devolução da herança patrimonial africana. Como aprofundamento do que representa essa questão, certificou-se a intenção em se manter objetos culturais provindos dos territórios explorados nos museus europeus no século XIX. Confirma-se que a grande musealização do patrimônio africano serviu à ideologia do imperialismo em sua empreitada de universalização e disseminação da civilização do homem branco para o resto do mundo. Devido ao poder das técnicas de exibição e visualização muito do que se afere das relações interculturais do contato entre colonos e colonizados se fazem sentir ainda hoje dentro das práticas dos museus etnográficos. Por fim, o levantamento da abordagem pós-colonial com autores que teorizam sobre representação, cultura, poder, dominação, identidade e resistência confirmam um corte ético-estético-material e demonstram que mais ampla que a tentativa de descolonização dos museus é a tentativa de renegociação das relações de poder no mundo
