A Study on the Application of Coping Skill Training Using Virtual Reality for Alcoholics

The purpose of this study is first, to evaluate the application coping skills training using virtual reality techniques. Second is to contribute to development of clinical social welfare program that can help relapse, treatment and rehabilitation of Alcoholics in the future. In this study, the coping skill training for Alcoholics of Severance Mental Health Hospital adding a virtual reality technique as a tool was conducted 11 Alcoholics throughout total of six sessions. To evaluate the application of a program, craving scale, Rathus Assertiveness Scale, self-efficacy scale, self-esteem scale were answered by their own report on pre-and post. And We had observed whether their Alcoholics were maintaining as outpatients for 3 months after last session. Because there are fewer cases, the data have been analysed by wilcoxen Singed Rank Test of SPSS for Window Release 12.0. As a result, Assertiveness, self-efficacy were changed significantly but craving, self-esteem were changed not-significantly. and 54.55% of patients were followed up as outpatients. That rate was slightly higher than the report of leading research. The results of this study mean the potentiality for clinical applications of virtual reality techniques, and the aptitude of clinical social welfare program that can help prevention of a relapse, treatment and rehabilitation of Alcoholics. However, the supplement, modification needs about self-esteem and craving. And A research on the Effectiveness is required based on scientific research methodology.
