Abstract Er3+ doped zinc lithium phosphate glass samples were synthesized by the very simple melt quenching method. The obtained X-ray diffraction patterns specify that the prepared glass samples exhibit glassy nature. The physical properties like packing density, molar volume, density, oxygen packing density, interionic distance, field strength, rare earth ion concentration, and polaron radius were calculated using appropriate formulae. DTA curve was analysed to evaluate the crystallization temperature, melting temperature, and glass transition temperature and hence study the thermal properties.
